MyRoads stores your trips on your device and in your own iCloud account. It has no server of its own, no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party SDKs. Nothing you do in the app is sent to the developer.
What the app stores
- Your trips. The stops you add, their order, their names and coordinates, your route preferences, and any notes attached to them. These are kept in a database on your device.
- An iCloud copy. If you are signed in to iCloud, that database syncs through Apple’s CloudKit to your own private iCloud account, so your trips appear on your other devices. It is your iCloud storage and your Apple Account — the developer has no access to it.
- Cached routes. Distances, travel times and route shapes are cached on your device so the app does not have to ask for the same route twice.
Maps and route calculation
When you search for a place, or when the app works out the driving route between two stops, that request goes to Apple’s mapping service — the same service the built-in Maps app uses. Apple describes how it handles these requests in the Apple Privacy Policy. These requests do not pass through any server of mine.
Suggestions are generated on your device
The trip narrative, the travel tips for a place and the trip name suggestions are produced by Apple’s on-device foundation model, running locally on your iPhone or iPad. Your trip details are not uploaded to generate them, and no prompt or result is sent to the developer or to any third party. If a device does not support the on-device model, these features are simply unavailable and the rest of the app is unaffected.
Sharing a trip
If you share a trip, it is shared through Apple’s CloudKit sharing. The people you invite can see — and, if you allow it, edit — the stops and details of that one trip. Apple handles the invitation and the access; the developer is not party to it and cannot see shared trips. You can stop sharing at any time in the app, which revokes their access.
The share extension
When you send something into MyRoads from another app, that content is handed to the extension by iOS and saved into the trip you pick. It is stored the same way as anything else in the app, and goes nowhere else.
What the developer receives
Nothing. There is no backend and no telemetry. The developer cannot see your trips, your location, your iCloud account, or whether you use the app at all.
Removing your data
- Deleting a trip in the app removes it from your device and from iCloud.
- Deleting the app removes its local copy.
- Data held in iCloud is managed in Settings under your Apple Account, where MyRoads can be turned off or its iCloud data deleted.
- Turning off sharing on a trip revokes access for everyone you invited.
Children
MyRoads is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone. iCloud accounts are subject to Apple’s own age requirements.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with an updated date.
